Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Facilities Division has an opening for a Custodian (Swing Shift) to join the team.

In this exciting role, you are responsible for maintaining premises and work areas in a clean and orderly manner and performs most assignments under direct supervision with instructions as to the results expected. You will determine methods, procedures, equipment and material, best suited for the operation to be performed.

What You Will Do:

Perform custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, polishing floors, and operating floor machines as needed.
Clean walls, windows, blinds, and doors; vacuum, shampoo, and spot clean carpets and upholstery.
Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, chalkboards, and equipment.
Clean and disinfect restrooms, showers, and washrooms, restocking supplies as necessary. Empty waste receptacles and dispose of trash.
Perform special cleaning tasks as assigned.
Ensure all work is done safely, adhering to DOE health and safety policies and local regulations.
Use PPE as required and stop work if hazardous conditions arise, notifying supervisors immediately.
Follow safety procedures and report unsafe conditions.
Adhere to ISM safety protocols and attend weekly safety meetings.

Additional Responsibilities as needed:

Clean ductwork and pipe using mobile elevated work platforms; clean air diffuser.

What is Required:

Demonstrated related - qualifications acquired either in a formal apprenticeship, or directly-related vocational training or equivalent 1 year work experience.
Ability to communicate (read, write, speak) in English. Ability to communicate clearly in writing, orally, over the telephone with Supervisor, work leads, peers, and customers regarding work assignments/safety issues.
Ability to follow oral and written policies, procedures, and instructions. Ability to read and comply with posted safety warnings.
Demonstrated ability to use computers and applicable software effectively for record-keeping and communication.
Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolds, work at heights; work in confined spaces, around rotating equipment, under fluorescent lights.
Able to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, have manual dexterity in both hands; lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted to chest height, and carry objects up to 100 feet up/downstairs.
Ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
Experience working as part of a team in a diverse work environment within all levels of the organization.
Excellent customer service skills and ability to promote customer relations through partnering with customers and colleagues.
Ability to make sound decisions using problem-solving and analysis skills necessary for the role and scope of work performed.

Desired Qualifications:

Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is desirable.

Notes:

This is a full-time, career appointment, non-exempt (hourly paid) eligible for overtime pay.
This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
Salary range $22.38 - $32.57/hourly depending on the step you will be hired at.
Swing Shift hours are 2pm - 10:30pm.

Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
