Job Purpose
The Executive Assistant is a member of the executive team, providing personal administrative support and assistance to AFJ’s President in a fast-paced nonprofit environment. Reporting to the President, this position plays a key role in managing workflow and board communications, scheduling meetings, and coordinating calendars, and sharing internal information to ensure efficiency among staff. As the Executive Assistant will be dealing with a lot of personal information specific to the individuals you are working for. You may be privy to confidential emails, financial information, etc. You will also be likely to be privy to confidential company information.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage President’s calendar, including scheduling meetings, organizing travel, and preparing travel itineraries for the President;
- Answer incoming calls for President from the media, donors, board members, and member organizations;
- Coordinate senior staff meetings between President, Vice Presidents, and other senior staff;
- Prepare and edit materials for meetings;
- Organize and track files and correspondence; and
- Perform other duties and assist other departments as required.
Qualifications
- BA degree or equivalent work experience;
- 5-7 years’ experience in an office setting (preferably nonprofit);
- Strong tech skills including Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, and Word;
- Ability to multitask, handle multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines;
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills;
- Meticulous attention to detail and quality of work product;
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills;
- Ability to anticipate needs, foresee outcomes, and act upon requests independently.
- Flexibility, patience, and sense of humor;
- Interest in law and social justice issues;
- Event and travel-planning experience; and
- Familiarity with EveryAction databases a plus.
Compensation
The starting salary range is $70,000-$78,000, based on experience. AFJ also offers a comprehensive and generous benefits program including:

Annual Leave – We have a generous paid time off policy. Vacation: 11 days for first year of employment, 15 days for second year, and 21 days after 3 years.

Bereavement Leave – Employees are granted 3 days of bereavement for the deaths of immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, grandparents, etc.).
Family Leave – We provide up to 16 weeks of parental leave and a range of paid and unpaid family leave programs that allow our employees to bond with and care for their children and other dependents.
Structure
This is a non-exempt position that has no direct reports.
Expected hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Job Location
Currently a hybrid office/remote with staff expected to be on site (if based in Washington, D.C.) 1-2 days a week.
