The Sr. Education & Outreach Manager is a multifaceted role that requires local cultural knowledge and the ability to be a strong climate communicator. The Sr. Education & Outreach Manager is passionate about CLEO’s mission and solving the climate crisis. This role focuses specifically on our Climate Resilient Schools program, our CLEO Speakers Network program and our community outreach work we conduct in partnership with municipalities, institutions and other collaborative partners and organizations. This person must be well versed in climate justice, and intersectional issues (or willing to learn quickly). This candidate works in tandem with the genCLEO Youth Movement team, and the Teacher’s Network, and directly reports to the VP of Operations & Programs. He/She/They works with other CLEO staff members across Florida and partners to advance the organization’s work. Therefore, having a fundamental understanding of climate science, its urgency, and solutions, is a must. This role demands a presence in the community, actively engaging with residents, doing outreach in schools, and with community partners, conducting in-classroom presentations across Broward & Miami-Dade; community presentations; attending coalition meetings, community events and advocacy meetings. This is a role for someone that is excited to work in this space and seeking to bring positive change in the community. This role requires experience in managing programs, demonstrated leadership, resourcefulness and experience managing a small team. This is not an entry level position.
The Sr. Education & Outreach Manager must be able to work evenings and weekends, as needed. Travel across South Florida would be required, especially in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary range $70,000- $80,000 depending on experience. CLEO offers a competitive benefits package including Medical/Dental/Vision; generous PTO policy (including winter break and summer PTO) and paid parental leave. This role is based in Miami and is not a remote position.
Job requirements:
Programs oversight:
- Help plan, design, lead and execute the multi-pronged Climate Resilient Schools program in Broward County and Miami Dade County, and oversee the Teachers Network across the state. Help with strategy, and oversight of the expansion of the CLEO Speakers network program. This includes two direct reports, who currently manage these programs.
Partnerships:
- Continue to maintain and build new relationships with stakeholders in the community that are key to the programs such as teachers, principals, directors, students, administrators, municipal partners, other nonprofits and foundations and foster new partnerships that can improve program outcomes.
Program execution, monitoring & evaluation:
- Help design, collect, record, and analyze program data, including feedback surveys, testimonials, and other data. Help write summary reports, and ensure programs are meeting grant and organizational goals/priorities.
- Assist with grant research & writing while managing existing grant deliverables, as well as leading and managing relevant program grant reports.
- Keep detailed, organized records of all program materials, participants and data in Google Suite/ Every Action / Survey Monkey and all the other platforms used for this purpose.
- Assist with content development for social media, e-newsletters, etc. to facilitate program recruitment and highlight outcomes, in collaboration with the communications team.
Community work & outreach:
- Represent CLEO in the community including attending events and conferences, serving on panels, networking, outreach with elected officials, schools, school board members, and media. Occasional domestic travel is required (including across Florida and locally across counties).
- Represent CLEO in the community: lead and co-facilitate climate trainings & webinars; sit in on recurring collaborative calls; oversee partnership projects such as summer Heat Safety Trainings and other resilience partnerships throughout the area.
- Assist broader team with annual event planning such as the Race for our Future 5K, Annual Celebration, Drinks for Climate etc.
- Provide support to other program managers for relevant programming
- Assist Leadership team when necessary
What you bring to the team:
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Understanding of, and experience working in, the field of climate equity and climate justice.
- Keen public presentation skills, with proven experience conducting trainings with different audiences
- Open-minded candidate with a can-do attitude, who is self-motivated.
- Experience working with students ( middle & high school )
- Experience doing outreach & comfortable being in the community, following leads to explore new avenues for collaboration and partnerships.
- Strategic & ambitious thinker, not afraid to bring new ideas to the table
- Proven experience managing programs with fixed timetables and defined deliverables & budgets, and ability to see projects through from beginning to end.
- Multi-tasker that is able to pivot rapidly when needed, in a quickly changing environment
- Ability to work and problem solve with little supervision, and with strong intuition
- Fast learner, who can think critically about the programs, and strategize on how to improve outcomes for participants, and impact
- Event planning experience (online and in-person) including but not limited to: scheduling speakers, booking venues, managing & crafting agendas, and coordinating multiple logistics
- Professional demeanor and approach to working relationships with colleagues as well as program partners
- Experience working with diverse cultures and populations
- Familiarity with Asana, Google Workspace, Survey Monkey, Microsoft Suite, and other digital platforms
- Must have reliable transportation to conduct outreach and workshops.
Other Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish or Creole)
- Experience in a supervisory role and dealing with direct reports
- 2-4 years of project management experience at a nonprofit organization
- 2+ years of experience managing youth programs, in schools/ school districts or in the local community
- Experience with climate/justice policy work and understanding of climate advocacy
- Experience with equity and diversity issues and their intersection with the climate crisis
- Connections with school districts (MDCPS / BCPS) and other relevant community groups, organizations, and institutions.
- A degree in a related field such as education, climate science, or community development.
- Customer Relationship Management (CRM) programs experience preferred
