SCG seeks a Manager, External Communications to join the Knowledge & Communications team in 2024. The Manager, External Communications will support the Vice President, Knowledge & Communications in developing and scaling SCG’s strategic communications plan. This position will be in charge of managing SCG’s external communications calendar and developing a range of communications materials. The Manager will also support the Vice President in creating compelling narratives to support SCG’s different teams, which include Public Policy & Government Affairs, Programs & Conferences, Membership & Sustainability, and Finance & Operations.
The Manager, External Communications will gain valuable experience in shaping an external communications strategy, branding and marketing SCG's signature events, and connecting with foundation, philanthropy, nonprofit, and government professionals. The full-time team consists of five (5) persons, including the Vice President of Knowledge & Communications; the Director of Equity, Arts, & Culture; the Manager of Data & Technology; the Manager of Digital Strategies; and the Associate, Marketing & Communications.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
External Communications (40%): Collaborate with the Vice President, Knowledge & Communications on developing strategies around strengthening SCG’s brand externally and elevating the voice of SCG’s President & CEO as a leader in philanthropy. Work with the Knowledge & Communications team on storytelling strategies that incorporate insightful data, impactful designs, and high-quality writing. Create and assist in the development of communications products such as talking points, speeches, long-form content (blogs, articles, op-eds, etc), press releases, social media copy, and more. Provide copy editing support to SCG to ensure clarity and consistency of editorial content across all channels.
Email Marketing (35%): Oversee the planning and execution of SCG’s signature newsletters and the marketing campaigns for SCG’s programs, conferences, and other events. Tasks include managing SCG’s editorial calendar and overseeing all email communications; maintaining the integrity of SCG’s CRM databases and email mailing lists and segments; building, implementing, and improving communications systems and processes to promote marketing plans; analyzing marketing campaigns, making recommendations for improvement, and ensuring all campaigns comply with current email best practices in the industry.
Website Content & Management (15%): Serve as the lead producer and manager of content for socalgrantmakers.org. Tasks include writing copy and updating web pages, ensuring branding standards across the site, and organizing content around themes that provide continuity to SCG’s efforts.
Member engagement, initiative, and event support (5%): As needed, assist with on-site and virtual logistics at SCG events, and programs, including all major conferences to build relationships with members and to provide cross-team support. As necessary, work with other SCG, Northern California Grantmakers and Catalyst of San Diego & Imperial Counties staff in collaboration on Philanthropy California Initiatives.
Infrastructure & Professional development (5%):
Participate in team and staff meetings and trainings; participate in key strategic initiatives as needed. Participate in trainings, workshops, and professional development opportunities to build leadership skills. Participate in racial equity and racial justice trainings in support of SCGs mission/vision/values. All other duties as assigned.
