Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Geographer (Remote Sensing) at Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, OR. The Geographer will be responsible for utilizing geographic information systems, remote sensing technologies, and analytical skills to analyze and interpret spatial data. The role involves creating maps, conducting geospatial analysis, and providing insights for energy-related projects.
A successful in the Geographer (Remote Sensing) position will serve as an expert in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), in addition to a knowledge of Remote Sensing technologies and principles.

DUTIES:
As a Geographer (Remote Sensing), you will:
Design and maintain databases and relational databases and ensure data quality through the use of automated and manual techniques to enter, edit and process data sets, including the use of SQL and related database management systems.
Automate, design and conduct complex geographic network, surface, and location analysis, including remote sensing data and aerial imagery mediums.
Apply statistical concepts, advanced GIS skills and other innovative spatial techniques to project assignments.
Create and modify GIS application software (e.g., SDE, eGIS, AGOL, Portal) to assist in data collection, storage, retrieval, visualization, and analysis of spatial information.
Communicate with other professionals for the purpose of obtaining and exchanging geographic and tabular data sets. Stay abreast of industry trends by attending trainings and conferences

QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
1. Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography,
computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.

2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields,
as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Performing work utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS), that requires knowledge of Remote Sensing technologies and principles to 1) Support GIS projects for an organization; 2) Maintain and troubleshoot databases to perform modeling, spatial analysis, or data management related to GIS.
