Director, Human Resources

Through a team of 24 HR professionals, NSCC’s Human Resources department provides human resource expertise and oversight for our pan-provincial organization; across all 14 campuses spanning Yarmouth to Sydney. With a staffing complement of some 2,000 employees, across four employee groups with three collective agreements, our bustling HR department oversees all aspects of human resources, across functional areas that include Payroll & Benefits, Human Resource Consulting, Labour & Employee Relations and Employee Health & Wellness.

Our new Director has an undergraduate degree, or a relevant combination of education, professional development and extensive occupational experience, in human resources or a related field. You have ten years of progressively responsible experience resulting in a strong working knowledge of HR functions, trends, and best practices. Your most recent experience includes leading a human resources agenda within a large, complex, unionized organization. You have demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, with experience developing and implementing DEI strategies that promote a culture of belonging and proven ability to lead initiatives that enhance diversity, address systemic inequities, and create opportunities for all employees to thrive. You have direct experience overseeing the labour relations function including developing labour strategies and bargaining plans, influencing positive relations with bargaining agents for unionized employees, and chairing collective bargaining teams. You also have experience overseeing thorough and respectful investigation processes of internal workplace complaints and/or allegations of misconduct; along with direct experience managing sensitive issues. You have experience in and bias for evidence-based decision-making; analytics; research and performance measurement. You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional employee experience.
