Minimum Salary: $104,071.00 to Maximum Salary: $140,802.00
Salary offers will be made within the posted range. Placement within the range will be determined based on your similar work experience. The Port considers work experience to be similar if the scope and level of responsibility of your prior positions match the job being offered.
Some of what you'll be doing:
As a Senior Environmental Management Specialist, you will provide independent analytical support and conduct a variety of moderately complex data collection tasks and analyses such as estimates of vehicle counts and types, emissions and energy reductions from proposed strategies, electrical consumption and peak demand for electric vehicles/charging, financial analyses such as total cost of ownership estimates, and other assessments to support sustainable transportation goals and objectives.
- You will research, collect, manage, and analyze complex issues and data such as electricity and fuel use, environmental impacts, activity information and cost/financial data to support a range of diverse transportation strategies.
- You will participate in the development of environmental plans and strategies to meet Port environmental goals including reducing carbon, increasing renewable energy, and advancing equity
- You will conduct research to assist in integrating new or updated technologies and business practices that pertain to environmental and sustainability programs. This includes researching and selecting methods of collecting and managing vehicle fleet-related data, selecting techniques for managing vehicle inventories, and evaluating fueling transactions and telematics data
- You will develop educational and informational materials related to transportation sustainability issues for a wide range of audiences including Port employees, stakeholders, and the public.
- You will contribute to the development and management of the budget for assigned projects/programs and support reporting requirements for grants.
- You will participate and contribute to the development of environmental plans and strategies to accomplish environmental goals.
Who you are:

Experienced – You have two (2) years of environmental and/or sustainability experience.

Desired – We hope you have a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Physical Sciences, Engineering, Economics, Environmental Management, Planning or Policy. We also hope you have any of the following licenses/certifications: American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Energy Manager, , LEED Accredited Professional (LEED-AP), or Project Management Professional (PMP), .

What else you need to know:

Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to be on-call to respond during off shift hours to address any issues that could adversely impact Port operations.

Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
