Position Summary:

This full-time position’s primary responsibility is providing professional, mental health counseling services. This includes supervision and guidance to students/interns, leading efforts in SJNC's Behavioral Health (BH) integration as well as for identifying improvement opportunities and innovations, designed to positively impact care delivery processes for clients in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Direct Counseling:

• Provides counseling, therapy, and/or psychotherapy to clients and families as appropriate to the position; prepares treatment plans, discharge plans, and follow-up care programs; provides therapeutic crisis intervention and emergency services as required.

• Maintain thorough documentation and case notes for clients

• Maintain HIPAA compliance for clients

• Provide referrals, advocacy and assistance as needed for clients, staff and volunteers of SJNC

• Collaborate with Medical, Care Coordination, and other departments within SJNC for client assistance and client/patient services (walk-ins, emergent needs, etc.)

Intern Supervision:

• Provide weekly, hour-long supervision for student interns

• Provide bi-weekly group supervision for student interns and community members

• Monitor student progress and, when necessary, work with graduate school supervisor to develop a remediation plan for successful completion of internship

• Attend site-supervisor meetings sponsored by schools and maintain professional documentation for each intern

Administration:

• Monitor paperwork related to student interns, client case notes, etc.

• Attend weekly staff and departmental meetings

• Work with Volunteer Coordinator to interview and orient potential departmental volunteers

• Provide departmental alignment and innovation with strategic pillars, mission, vision, and values of SJNC

• Coordinate Group Counseling Opportunities including ordering materials, registration of participants, supervising or facilitating sessions as necessary

Requirements and Qualifications:

• NY State license (LCSW-R) able to practice and serve as an approved clinical supervisor

• Masters Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy

• Requires valid NYS driver’s license as this position may operate the organization's Mobile Outreach and Engagement vehicle (MOE) and/or other agency owned vehicles.

• Access to reliable transportation; vehicular liability insurance of $100,000/$300,000 required.

• Interviewing and psychological/developmental evaluation skills.

• Knowledge and understanding of clinical social work and mental health counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards.

• Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications.

• Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.

• Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients' rights.

• Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.

• Follows all safety protocols and maintains client confidentiality.
